Ford Transit 148 floor measurement guide

Measure the floor in a 2020–2026 Transit 148-inch wheelbase, non-extended high-roof cargo van before cutting plywood or trusting a template. No signup is required.

BEFORE YOU START

Will one floor template fit every 2020–2026 Transit?

That is exactly what must be proven before a template can be sold responsibly. The planned TrueFit V1 is deliberately narrow: 2020–2026 Ford Transit T-250 and T-350 single-rear-wheel cargo vans, 148-inch wheelbase, non-extended body, high roof. Passenger vans, crew vans, 148 EXT bodies, dual-rear-wheel models, and 2015–2019 vans are outside V1.

A model-year range is a target scope—not a blanket fit claim. TrueFit will release the geometry only after comparing the captured vehicle against the stated configurations and completing a physical floor test fit. Until then, use this guide to document the van in front of you.

01 · IDENTIFY THE VAN

Start with the configuration, not the listing.

Write down before measuring

Model year, 148-inch wheelbase, non-extended body, roof height, cargo or passenger origin, drivetrain, and any factory floor or seat package.

Seller descriptions and registration summaries can omit body details. Confirm the configuration from the vehicle and use Ford’s official tools when needed.

02 · RECORD THE STARTING FLOOR

Photograph what makes your van different.

  • Rear and side-door thresholds
  • Wheel wells, pillars, and curved corners
  • Tie-downs and seat-mounting hardware
  • Factory mat, wood floor, or previous-owner changes
  • Access panels and areas that must remain serviceable
  • Any place you may later consider fastening

Keep the photos with the measurements. A number without a visible datum or feature is difficult to interpret later.

03 · CHOOSE A REPEATABLE DATUM

Build a coordinate system you can reconstruct.

One practical station method

  1. Establish a straight centerline or other clearly documented longitudinal reference.
  2. Choose a zero station at a repeatable vehicle feature—not a loose trim edge.
  3. Mark perpendicular stations at regular intervals, such as every 12 inches.
  4. At each station, record the left and right offsets separately. Do not assume symmetry.
  5. Add extra feature lines at wheel-well transitions, pillars, and door openings.

Use the same units and measuring face throughout. Note whether each value ends at bare metal, factory trim, an insulation layer, or the intended finished edge.

04 · DECIDE THE FLOOR STACK

Thickness changes the outline.

Record the planned insulation, battens, plywood thickness, finish floor, and edge treatment before finalizing the perimeter. Curved walls and angled trim can move the usable edge as the floor height rises.

05 · PRINTABLE MEASUREMENT LOG

Record offsets, not memories.

Label the datum and units at the top. Add, remove, or relabel stations to suit your build; the sample spacing is only a starting structure.

06 · TEST BEFORE THE FULL SHEET

Prove the hardest part cheaply.

Recreate one complex wheel-well or door-area profile in cardboard, hardboard, or another inexpensive material. Verify clearance in the van before transferring the complete outline to plywood.

Fastening is a separate safety decision.

This guide does not identify safe drilling or fastening locations. Consult the correct Ford documentation for your vehicle and inspect what is below or behind any proposed fastener location.

THE SHORTCUT BEING TESTED

Would scan-based geometry save you this work?

TrueFit is testing demand for a structured-light-scanned, physically test-fit floor system for 2020–2026 Transit T-250/T-350 SRW cargo vans with the 148-inch wheelbase, non-extended high roof. Planned outputs include DXF, SVG, a full-scale PDF, a 4×8 layout, and an optional printed pattern. No payment is being taken during the demand test.
